Why Hydrotherapy?

The swimming of horses has many benefits, from being a relaxing change of routine in training, helping fitness and stamina without the rigours of roadwork, to relaxation for an injured or jaded horse or just relieving the boredom of box rest. Muscles can be kept working after injury, as can tendons and joints without jarring or concussion.

Swimming is also an aerobic exercise as the horse must work against the water pressure when breathing, improving lung capacity and stamina.

Regular swimming sessions together with time on the large horse walker can improve fitness as part of a pre-training programme, helping to strengthen muscle and bone.

Veterinary advice should be taken regarding horses recovering from surgery or injury

The full-size equine pool has a gently sloping entrance ramp with rubber flooring. The water is filtered by a three-pump chlorine filtration system.

After swimming, drying off in the solarium encourages further relaxation whilst back muscles benefit from the infra-red lamps.

Any or all of the facilities can be used to create a fitness programme for each horse's needs.
